I have been in private practice since 1992, representing individuals, families and small businesses in a wide variety of civil matters. My civil litigation practice includes handling family law, business and real estate disputes, personal injury claims, estate planning and probate litigation.
As an experienced attorney, I know that litigation is difficult, risky and expensive. The vast majority of my clients who find themselves in a legal dispute want only to have their rights protected and to achieve a reasonable, fair result. Court is generally a last resort for everybody.
I will negotiate on behalf of my client where possible and productive, and I often encourage clients to engage in mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). While I do not seek to lead a client to trial, I am fully prepared to do so where necessary to protect his or her rights and achieve an important outcome.

I was raised in a tennis family and grew up playing competitively through college. Before my career as a lawyer, I was a tennis professional at tennis clubs in the greater Seattle area, and I am still heavily involved in the tennis community. I have found that the competitive world of the tennis court has prepared me immeasurably for the battleground of the courtroom. Of course, law school helped a bit as well.
I reside in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle with my wife of 25 years and our 16 year-old son.
